Zuko is Sanguis. To reflect his dual nature, I'm granting him two moonblessed animals he'll gain attributes from. Which animal features appear will depend on his emotional state at the time of Sanguis moon. He will alternate between a sunbeam snake and a sun bear cub to varying degrees.

OVERALL started his time here with a trash fire and kept up a general theme. eventually a cosmic, feverish, existential panic attack over it all left him bedridden a couple weeks (cared for by Tamaki) as his psyche processed what the fuck was going on. destiny has gone, uh, wildly off-course.

OVERALL September brought so many friends all at once. Zuko's social life is suddenly poppin'! Cemented about a dozen friendships — which is like emotional whiplash for a boy who's scarcely had friends in his life before coming here; but he is undeniably less alone now, so it was also undeniably a good month. The best he's had in years, technically. What makes it better is that his uncle Iroh has showed up now; what makes it worse is that his sister Azula showed up, too. But... even their relationship here is better than it's been in years/ever? A strange peace fell over September, despite whatever chaos brought Zuko closer to so many people. Oh, also he turned into a baby bear for three days and he really hated that.

OVERALL October was a whirlwind of emotions, and his social life has become as gratifying as it is confusing. He's strengthened his hobbies, making model warships, meditating and training with his uncle, running and playing sports with his friend Yamamoto. He's also rather excitedly discovered a new love for movies, even arranged movie nights with his friends... and his sister, whom he's grown much closer with quite quickly, unexpectedly. Likewise, he's grown much closer with his best friend Gokudera, and Zuko's fond feelings surrounding the boy have begun to trouble him, prompting him to seek advice from friends and strangers alike. He even sought psychiatric therapy, hoping it'd help him unblock his chi. But with his uncle's help, he's finally regained his firebending, albeit his flame doesn't burn as bright as it usually does... But the torch he carries is burning stronger than ever.

NOVEMBER

HITACHIIN HIKARU: More than a makeover... Hikaru cuts Zuko's hair short and points him in the right direction.

SUOH TAMAKI: Bad puns and bad teas... Bears and Arizona teas will haunt Zuko forever.
AZULA: Discussing Sanguis, urges, and what lights their flames...

OVERALL November left Zuko feeling... surprisingly normal and well-adjusted. His major troubles are two problematic crushes. He gets a full image revamp with Hikaru that sets the stage for the long run, even after Prismatica. He's coming to embrace what it's like to just be an average teenager working a job and wondering if the people he fancies feel the same about him. What a life.

DECEMBER

AZULA: Lamenting the moons together, brother and sister helping each other for once? Wow.

OVERALL A lot of the stress he's felt at Prismatica has finally melted away, for better or worse. He's still not a normal teenager — far from it. But he has certainly gained experiences he never thought he'd ever have, things he'd never be able to do at home, or even want to do... but confused or not, he's eager for more experiences like these, undeterred from this unfamiliar walk in life he's chosen. He's become closer to many people in ways he'd never expect, and he's surprisingly thankful for it.

Endgame. Just before the events leading to escape from Prismatica, Zuko was spirited away once more. His final night, he microwaved something metal in his apartment with the hosts. As it grew out of his control without him noticing, the firebender ran to grab a wet blanket, while his roommates "helped" by making things far worse and throwing flour on the fire to tame it. As the flames began to engulf the kitchen, the four boys decided it was a lost cause. They all dashed to their bedrooms, packed up all the most important things they owned, and decided to just... leave. They ran through an increasingly smoke-filled flat with suitcases in tow, Zuko carefully carrying his favorite model warship customized to look like his Fire Navy cruiser, Hikaru chasing after stray papers flying from their portfolio as Kaoru pulled him away from the precious papers floating to their doom, Tamaki trying to shlep cases of Arizona Tea from the fridge beneath billows of smoke... Chaos.

As the boys abandoned the scene of the crime, Kaoru called 911 to report, "We just passed by a building on fire." Not their problem now. The four rich kids stay in a cheap motel for the first time in their lives, all appalled. Never again; clearly only in an emergency! Zuko didn't burn the world down, but as it turns out... he may as well have.

Because, emergencies abound, after unrestful sleep in the cheap motel bed, Zuko then wakes up... in Avalon.

PERSONALITY

Zuko's a little rough around the edges — okay, a lot. But behind the gruff, hot-tempered exterior, there is an idealist with a pure heart, unquestionable honor, and unfortunately, many raw, tender nerves. In his sixteen rather isolated years, Zuko's never known a calm, normal life, or anyone else who's had one. While at times it's hard for others to tell Zuko cares, and at times it's hard for him to show it, the truth is that Zuko is a well of empathy. Life's just dealt him a fucking bum hand, even as royalty, and trauma and abuse have led him astray too often. Now he's set on reinventing himself into a kinder person, determined to rewrite his own destiny. He's a profound boy, but he's easily influenced and sometimes needs guidance on what's right and wrong — whichever side he gets it from.

But for someone whose moral pendulum can swing so far, he's surprisingly outspoken about his convictions. He often impulsively dives into dangerous situations without a plan, but ever stubborn, he can only learn from his mistakes on his own. He's not the bubbly type at all, but once comfortable, he can be rather emotive — I mean, beyond chronic angry outbursts. Spirited away now, it's his first chance live a peaceful, mundane life, and that's strangely exciting for the exiled prince. He may miss some social cues, and will still likely maintain a baseline grumpiness, but he's learning how to let loose and have fun like a normal teenager. He's not a prince in this world, after all — now he's just some kid named Zuko. #newplanetnewme

A Hallmark movie from Hell. Zuko's father tells him that his younger sister Azula was "born lucky," whereas Zuko was "lucky to be born." To be more accurate, Zuko was lucky that his father didn't kill him after he was born for not having "the spark" of a firebender in his eyes. Thankfully, he developed firebending skills, but not a better relationship with his father, who had it out for his only son from that day forward. Zuko was born into royalty, Crown Prince of a military world power called the Fire Nation, heir apparent to its violent despot, Fire Lord Ozai. He lived in the shadow of his vicious, prodigy sister, Azula, all his life, developing an abusive at worst/strained at best, relationship with her, as well. His gentle mother was his only comfort and confidant as a child, but she disappeared when Zuko was 11 as part of a treasonous plot for his father to gain power, only to spare Zuko's life from his ruthless father and grandfather. Without his mother's protection, though, life became harder for a young Zuko after that, culminating in his banishment and disfigurement at age 13.

His kindhearted uncle, Iroh, his father's only brother and absolute foil, had allowed Zuko to sit in on a war council meeting, but Zuko spoke out of turn, criticizing a general's plot to sacrifice inexperienced soldiers as bait in a siege. His father felt he had been dishonored in his own war room, and challenged his child to a fire duel; the young Zuko refused to fight, and Ozai was ashamed of his cowardice. He punished Zuko with a blast of fire directly to the face, scarring most of the left side of his face permanently. To add insult to injury, Ozai exiled his son for refusing to fight, sending him on an impossible mission to capture the Avatar, an all-powerful defender of peace who'd disappeared one hundred years ago. Denying this as a fool's errand, a young Zuko set out determined on endless perilous journeys, his kindly uncle caring for him like a proper parent by his side, scouring the globe for three years in search of this legendary figure. He was convinced this was the only way to regain his honor in his father's eyes, and yearned to return home a hero.

By some miracle, Zuko did find the Avatar, who had been frozen in ice for the past century in hiding. Then the exiled prince kicked shit into high-gear. He chased the Avatar and his friends from the South Pole to the North Pole, all the way around the world, relentless in his attacks and attempts to capture the Avatar. He and his uncle were eventually labeled as traitors to the Fire Nation, and lived undercover in enemy territory under new assumed identities, disguised as peaceful commoners running their own tea shop. This was a transformative period for Zuko, as he saw the devastation his father's military spread across the world.

He eventually came to realize he was fighting for the wrong side, and that his father could not grant him his honor, nor take it away. Zuko then set out to join the Avatar in his mission to defeat Fire Lord Ozai. After everything his father had put him through, even in the "happy" times when the worst issue was that he favored Azula and came down on Zuko for his ineptitude and nothing more, and after seeing the pain his father's war had wrought on the world, it was a difficult but sound decision to turn against his family. Zuko was determined to depose his father and become fire lord himself, seeking to establish policies that would help to heal the world and regain balance for the first time in a century. He and the Avatar and their companions arrange a large-scale coup d'état, battling the Fire Nation armies, air force and navy against all odds. But Zuko knows it's the Avatar's destiny to defeat his father, not his — his was to undo his family's reign of terror.

first impressions Zuko has RBE. Resting Bitch Everything. He tends to stand closed off with a wide personal bubble, not the smiley type. He's polite, he's just... gruff. And awkward. Maybe a little bratty at times. But nice! He's rather emotive, although not fully in tune with how transparent he is. His face is very expressive, despite the impression that he's never happy; his body language speaks to it far more than he does. He struggles with keeping eye contact and often rubs his neck or head whenever he's a bit on edge. He's got some restless energy to work out low-key all the time — so he's become fond of a new "toy" to stim with in this new world, surely making everyone around him extremely comfortable and not at all nervous, and now typically keeps a small, cheap pocket lighter on him to flick on and off idly as a... fidget flame.

features Zuko, himself, always believes his real first impression to be the noticeable scar over the left side of his face; it covers all of his eye area, cheekbone and ear. His eyelids and eyesight are both functional in this eye still, though not fully, but the skin's disfigurement is permanent, after taking a strong blaze directly to the face when he was 13. Zuko feels people must see this as his primary feature. The reality is, though, that Zuko is a handsome young boy with a short, slender, strong figure, a mess of thick black hair, a smoky incense-like oriental scent about him, and striking golden eyes — and, despite how seldom anyone sees it, a bright smile.

clothing Left to his own devices, Zuko errs on the side of hoodies, hoodies, and even more hoodies. He has a lot of basic T-shirt and jacket combos, and sticks to a pretty general color scheme — reds, maroons, black and grey. You can take the boy out of the Fire Nation but you can’t take the Fire Nation out of the boy... He's recently introduced collared shirts and pullover combos to his wardrobe, and also finally some other color than red and black — greens are back in the mix now, like he wore under cover in the Earth Kingdom, a flattering color on him! He sticks to dark jeans and boots typically, and has collected exactly three pairs of shoes: black boots, red trainers, and grey oxfords. Done. It may be simple and subtle, but his style is developing...

He arrived in Avalon wearing black denim pants, black denim jacket, black combat boots, and a grey T-shirt, with his hair cut short. He kept his funky Fire Nation get-up in his inventory in Avalon, having arrived in Prismatica wearing it, along with a moptop that grew out of control after a couple months, but his style has changed in-game as he experiments with cool alien clothing under his cool alien friends' influence and finds his own new look.

His close friend Hitachiin Hikaru (irritated) gave him a major makeover in November 2020 (Prismatica). He cut Zuko's hair short, which he now maintains in Avalon, and gave him a more vibrant sense of fashion direction. Under Hikaru's shopping influence in both Prismatica and Avalon as well, Zuko's modern fashion sense has been permanently elevated! Nothing too crazy, knowing it's Zuko he's dressing, but Hikaru gave him some rough and tumble flair, kept him in T-shirts and jackets, but more stylish. He also helped him play with adding prints and pops of color. And they grew closer as friends while boosting Zuko's self-esteem! More than a makeover...

Azula and Zuko's relationship has drastically changed in Prismatica, and that in itself is enough of a mindfuck. Azula is from several years in Zuko's future (end of the comics), and clearly their relationship improved in the future, so Zuko's inclined to trust her more... which set them off on a good foot in Prismatica, where they have no stakes, no reasons to fight, nothing to lose or gain. Just brother and sister. Weird, right? Neither know what to make of each other here, so many years apart (Azula is older than him now! Big sis!), and are awkwardly navigating this new dynamic, but growing closer quickly. Much between them remains unspoken, and they both prefer it that way. But for leaving so much unspoken, they sure do fucking text a lot. Someone's phone is always blowing up... Usually Zuko's, lbr.

If there's anyone Zuko'd want to be stranded on an alien planet with, it's Iroh. The prince refused to allow himself to miss his friends from home, on the off chance their destinies aren't frozen and they really do go missing when they come here; he can't bear the weight of his own imagination if they were all to disappear from the crux of the war, and wishing they were here with him just for his comfort seemed selfish. But the only person he couldn't help but shed tears for was his uncle. That Iroh and Azula should arrive at the same time felt like nothing short of a miracle upon a miracle. Zuko and his uncle have an opportunity to become closer calmly here, get to know each other in new ways, and comfort each other in this cosmic mess. Plus, through diligent and heartfelt training with his uncle, at long last Zuko's got his firebending back!

OVERVIEW Royal Family Reunion~ This planet offers peaceful opportunities to bond with his uncle and sister in ways they were never afforded at home. He's grown closer to both on new sentimental, intimate levels, both emotionally and physically; Zuko now gets a majority of his Chroma from Iroh and Azula, which has improved his general wellbeing just by that alone. Cuddles help all around... can't beat family, though.

Hitachiin Hikaru » irritated » 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 They met shouting insults at one another in public. Now, by some twist of fate, Hikaru alone knows the near entirety of Zuko's life story. They're mutually privy to the pain that's shaped both their identities, and it's a strange but meaningful coin to flip. Whether it was sheer moon force, coincidence, or destiny that brought these two hot-tempered, seemingly ill-matched boys together, they're learning about compassion together, practicing social skills on one another, with varying degrees of success. They've decided not to fight and they can both acknowledge when the other is trying, which is a pretty profound thing for someone as explosive as Zuko and someone as condescending as Hikaru. Zuko still thinks Hikaru is crazy like the other two, but there's this quiet understanding between them that's built... something, if not friendship.

Hitachiin Kaoru » individuates » 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 the Golden Child. But even the only sane one is crazy — but not as weird as Tamaki, nicer than Hikaru, and calmer than Zuko, so Kaoru keeps the balance in the house. Kaoru's the only one Zuko feels comfortable talking to as a confidant — and he even responds well to his friendlily teasing physical affection... How can he be friends with one twin but not the other? Dunno, but leave it to Zuko to make things unnecessarily angry and awkward.

OVERVIEW Just four normal teenage boys living like normal teenage boys, teaching Zuko how to be a normal teenager, totally taking proper care of themselves, certainly not living in luxurious squalor, and definitely not setting anything on fire, nope, nothing to see here, move along, folks...

Gokudera Hayato » bakudan_bambino » 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 Possibly the coolest person he's ever met? Granted, he's not met many people he'd call "cool" in his life, but Gokudera certainly sets a new bar. Two peas in a really traumatized, combustible pod. It was uncannily easy to open up with each other from the get-go, especially physically, and Zuko's never made such a fast friend. They share too much in common in their stories, unfortunately, but there's a certain solace in finally knowing someone who can go neck-and-neck with him about the family crazies. Zuko admires Gokudera's spirit and will, and respects his resilience, thinking his life has been far harder than his own — which is saying something. Fascinated by his style and mafia stories, whether he's fully aware of it or not, Zuko's quite easily under his new best friend's influence, for better or worse... He's enamored with Uri and all of Gokudera's fighting techniques, and well, just all of Gokudera, really. What goes together better than fire and dynamite? Probably a lot, but in this case, it's a hit. 🧨💥
He also has a working theory that Gokudera could be an Avatar, but nbd. just destiny playing another joke.

Yamamoto Takeshi » tsuyoi_ame » 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 Yamamoto is a strange one, and Zuko struggles to wrap his head around the hitman. But he knows he likes him. He admires Yamamoto's determination and natural aptitude for fighting, things he'd want to emulate himself; but he also admires Yamamoto's carefree, open-hearted nature, which he can't emulate. No one can. The baseball player has a strange effect, Zuko feels like he's not judged in any way, just pleasant company, straightforward friendship. He knew the boy had a darker depth to him from what Gokudera had told him of his roommate before meeting him, so the friendly smile and happy-go-lucky airs struck him differently than most. What's more, Yamamoto started a fling with Azula for Chroma, who moved into their apartment, making things a bit awkward for Zuko at first. But as time went on, Zuko saw how kind Yamamoto was to his sister without reason to be, how he accepted both the fiery royals for who they are regardless of their bark or bite, and how unusually comfortable Azula grew around him in turn... He's decided Yamamoto is just a genuinely good guy. He'll never understand why he laughs so much, though. He can't follow his cheer after a certain point. But he still enjoys it.

Titus Alexius » wearingguess » 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 Titus is an unusual and effervescent person who just won't take no for an answer on friendship. From the start, Zuko's been a crabby ass to him, met only with inexplicable and insufferable cheer. But over time, Titus broke down the prince's walls, once he revealed his own war-torn world's fascinating stories. He quite unexpectedly proved himself to be a wise confidant, and a good guide. Zuko misjudged him, and in the face of Titus's unwavering kindness, he feels a bit sheepish about it by this point, which only prompts him to be more himself around the magician. His most unlikely friendship, surface level, but a friendship he's come to take some tongue-in-cheek amusement in for that same reason.

OVERVIEW Friends are harder to come by at home, but that still doesn't mean it's easy for him here. He's working on it. He's got one best friend and it seems enough for now. Accomplished a friendship.

Okumura Rin » satanslash » 🔥 🔥 🔥 Zuko's boss treats him great and he knows it. Rin was one of the first people Zuko met on his first day, which was, um, not his shining momnet... but Rin withstood the boy's temper and looked past it, taking him out to lunch at his teppanyaki restaurant. Zuko was amazed, of course, and once he accepted his fate here, he also accepted a job as a busboy in Rin's restaurant. He feels indebted to his boss for all his kindness, feeding him often, even offered to teach him to cook. Rin works hard and runs his shop happily, so Zuko tries to pay it forward — eh, minus the happily part, but he's a hard lil worker. Plus, he loves all the fire, obviously. Fire buddies.

Yvelon Noirterel » saltmage » 🔥 🔥 Essentially, the prince's personal chef. Zuko respects Yvelon and fell quite naturally under the man's influence. Yvelon speaks in a direct, stern, yet kindly way that strikes a great chord with Zuko's communication styles — clear, pointed language without beating around the bush works well on Zuko. Immediately, Yvelon established that he wanted to help Zuko, and while Zuko would typically be much more reluctant, he found himself easily folding under the man's somewhat mystical effect. Yvelon first took a sickly, dazed Zuko to lunch, sent him with leftovers and medical advice, had a rather fun, intelligent, lighthearted conversation about war and injury, and hit it off from there. Yvelon instructed Zuko to come to him for food from then on, so he did not have to spend what little Chroma he had on the necessities an adult should be still providing at his age, and also so Zuko could avoid all the touchy-feely stuff a little more. Since then, about once a week Zuko picks up a fair amount of food — all rather plain, but free food all the same — to take home to his roommates, Yvelon knowing all of them are teenagers who need the guardianship in some way. A seven-foot-tall blessing.

Akihito Kaji » rippingu » 🔥 🔥 🔥 Kaji talks straight with Zuko — and by talks straight, I mean teaches him about being gay. What started out as Zuko giving his own earnest dating advice on how to show your partner you care, eventually turned into Kaji explaining many shades of sexuality to a confused and troubled Zuko over the network. Speaking anonymously with a stranger about problems he didn't feel comfortable confiding in his friends and family over was surprisingly freeing and enlightening. Kaji helped Zuko explore his growing (but unfortunately unrequited) romantic feelings for his best friend Gokudera. He introduced new ideas of the many types of relationships in life, how lines blur between people, and offered a candid shoulder to the poor virgin with his first gay crush. Bisexuality is mildly mind-blowing, and Zuko knows nothing about "gay stuff," which was illegal in the Fire Nation. But now he thinks it best to revoke that law when he returns home.

OVERVIEW As a walking charity case, Zuko's been "adopted" by a small collection of concerned adults. Of course he denied all their help at first, because he's him. But in truth, he knows he needs the help. He needs guidance. He needs insight. He needs food. Actually, this is essentially a list of people who feed him.
